How should I send my manuscript?
I will only accept Microsoft Word (.doc or .docx) files. Any other content that is not part of the manuscript but is related should be emailed in a separate Word doc. Example: synopsis, author bio and marketing plan. Please follow the style settings below:
Font: 12-point Times New Roman, black type
Margins: 1″ all around
Page numbers: bottom of page, centred
Paragraph indenting 0.5″, formatted automatically instead of manual creation with tabs
Is there any genre or subject matter I don’t work on?
I edit all genres, except for science fiction, fantasy fiction and poetry.
What are the preferred modes of payments?
Will you format my book?
Editor’s Atelier currently only offers editorial services. Note that I also do not offer cover design, marketing or publicity services.
Will the use of editorial services guarantee publication by a major publishing house or agent representation?
Like most professional editors, I do not guarantee publication or getting a deal with an agent. If you want a consultation on which agent or publisher to submit, I will quote a separate fee. However, I do not promise publication.
Will my manuscript be flawless when it is returned to me?
My aim is not a flawless manuscript but one that has improved significantly.
Is Editor’s Atelier a literary agency?
Editor’s Atelier is not a literary agency. However, Editor’s Atelier can guide you through the process of submission, be it identifying the market potential, which publishers to approach or preparing a comprehensive book proposal.
Does developmental editing include rewriting, writing, research and fact check?
Developmental editing does not include any writing, research, interviewing or rewriting. Depending on the manuscript, the editor will suggest what is needed to suit the story. However, if you need any of these apart from a developmental edit. these will be charged separately.
If I want multiple rounds of editing, can there be a discount?
Although I do not offer discounts as such, every consecutive round of developmental or copy-editing is cheaper.
How many rounds of editing will I need?
There is no fixed answer as each manuscript is different. Every consecutive round of developmental or copy-editing will cost lesser than the first. If you only wish for only one round but still need feedback on the revised version, I will charge for it separately.
Why is a manuscript assessment cheaper than a developmental edit?
An assessment is cheaper because it involves only a report. In a developmental edit, the editor edits the manuscript and also inserts comments.
Is there an upfront fee?
Yes. Clients must pay 50 per cent of the total fee upfront. I also allow authors to pay in installments, if the project or financial constraints demand so. Please email for details. E: firstname.lastname@example.org
Can I get a sample edit?
